(September 15, 2011) GRONINGEN, THE NETHERLANDS - Syncom announced today that it has been selected by Pfizer as the winner of the 2nd Route Design Innovation Award, which recognizes excellence and creativity in chemical process research and development.  Syncom's contribution has been judged as being the most innovative proposal received in the challenge.  Pfizer will present the award to Syncom during the 2011 ChemOutsourcing Conference to be held in Long Branch, NJ September 12 - 15.

The innovation challenge was initiated by Pfizer to generate new and improved routes of synthesis for the manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API's) and intermediates.  For a specific Pfizer API, Syncom designed several novel and innovative routes to improve the current API manufacturing process.  The winning Syncom route provides solutions in dealing with hazardous chemicals and creates the opportunity for significant cost of goods savings.

"We are proud to have been selected by Pfizer as the winner of the Pfizer Innovation Challenge" says Syncom CEO Ton Vries, Ph.D.  "This award is a clear recognition of the creativity and high quality of Syncom's scientific team.  It further exemplifies Syncom's motto of "Designing Chemistry" under which we provide our clients not only with materials but with high quality intellectual contributions to their projects as well.  We are looking forward to working with Pfizer on this and other program as part of our long lasting collaboration."

Pfizer congratulated Syncom on the high quality of their proposed solutions submitted in response to our second innovation challenge.  "Their response comprised a varied selection of routes and demonstrated superb innovation and creativity in the synthesis of a complex molecule.  We look forward to further collaborating with Syncom to develop this and other programs and consider Syncom a valued partner in the development of innovative research," said Pat O'Neill, Ph.D.:  Chemistry Team Leader, Pfizer Global Supply.
